F.A.R.M FACTS
Cruelty on the way to the slaughterhouse
Though we may not think about it a lot, more than 95% of animals kept by Canadians are farm animals.
Besides damaging our environment and putting our health at risk, our demand for meat is even worse for the animals. Across our province and country there are giant barns crowded with chickens in tiny cages, pigs in stalls where they can't even turn around (known as gestation crates) and cattle crammed into feedlots where they are fattened on food that makes them, and those who eat them, ill.
For these animals their only release is the slaughterhouse which is a brutal ride, often located up to 36 hours away. F.A.R.M finds this system unacceptable and is hoping to invoke compassion and change within our province. We are hoping to do this through education.
We realize it can be unpleasant, but we believe this kind of knowledge is neccessary and the first step towards making life better for the animals in our province. Please read up on all/any animals of interest and see how the majority are raised in our province.
Canada's current legislation allows pigs, chickens and horses to be transported for up to 36 hours with no food, water or rest break. Imagine being cramped up like that for that long.
Animals like cattle, sheep and goats may be transported up to 52 hours without food, water or a break and may be left for a staggering 81 hours without food. To help Canadian farm animals, print off the petition created by our friends at the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals and gather 25 signatures here:

Download and print three copies of the petition. Ask at least 25 people to sign the petition, and to print their name and address. It is a good idea to get more than 25 names in case one or more names is disqualified when the petitions are certified. Do not get signatures on the back of petitions, as they will be disqualified. To be certified, a petition must have no erasures or alterations to the text, including crossing out or adding words or commentary.

Manitobans: Stop the live burning of animals in our province!
Barn fires are reaching epic proportions, nationwide. In the last 20 months, nearly 80, 000 animals have been burned alive in barn fires in Canada.
The majority of sows in Manitoba are raised in cruel gestation crates where they can't even turn around; as the barns burn, the sows (like any other living creature) try to save themselves . Not only are they trapped, destined to burn to death, the abdomens of these creatures rupture in the fire, spilling their internal organs, and uteruses which of course contain piglets in various stages of development. It is unbelievably gruesome. THIS ANIMAL SUFFERING IS PREVENTABLE.
